The last place of our trip. It makes you a little sad – as impressive as the past few days were. Our accommodation was in the old town below the mountain church. As a tourist, you are only allowed to drive through this area for a short time. So we quickly unloaded our suitcases, parked the car below the citadel and walked back. The unique historic center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. And rightly so. This part of the city is beautiful, with small alleyways and the typical colorful facades. Situated on and around the hill, everything is very winding and has an endearing charm. We had time and walked through the so-called lower town. A wooden covered staircase, the so-called student staircase with around 100 steps, leads to the upper town to connect the two parts and make it easier for the German schoolchildren of the time to get to their school.
While Bran Castle has nothing to do with Count Dracula, things are different in Sighișoara. It is rumored that Vlad Țepeș (Vlad III Drăculea, the Impaler), son of Vlad II. Dracul (the Dragon), was possibly born there. He is said to have lived in the town between 1431 and 1436. The house in question was only a stone’s throw away from our accommodation. We were still able to sleep well 🙂 Maybe it was the good food and the Romanian beer.

Conclusion: A beautiful and fitting end to a very impressive trip. Anyone traveling to the Transylvania region of Romania should definitely plan a visit. There is so much to discover.
