All-wheel drive
The Suzuki Grand Vitara FT features a selectable four-wheel drive system with freewheeling hubs on the front axles. This means that under normal driving conditions, only the rear wheels are powered. If traction is lost on the rear wheels, four-wheel drive can be manually engaged – which is especially useful when driving on snow, mud, or loose terrain.
Technical functionality:
- Normally, the freewheel hubs are open and the front wheels are not driven.
- When the all-wheel drive is engaged, the freewheel hubs are closed and the front wheels are also driven.
- The power distribution between the front and rear axles is 50:50.
Gear reduction:
The Suzuki Grand Vitara FT also has a gear reduction. The gear reduction is a transmission that reduces the engine speed in a ratio of 1:2.54. This enables the vehicle to drive with more power and torque in difficult off-road conditions.
