With the help of the “Offroad Atlas” by Peter Schmitz, published by TVV Touristik Verlag, we were able to discover another route with an off-road feeling in our immediate vicinity.

Beautifully situated, the Südheide Nature Park is first and foremost a paradise for cyclists, horse riders, carriages and walkers. But we off-roaders are also allowed to ride through the beautiful heath forests on sandy paths, some gravel and asphalt.

After our adventure with the evil wolf, these paths seem quite harmless, especially as it was dry. After rainy days, it can certainly be very wet and muddy, but there are no dangerous shallows or steep slopes. The route is a moderate 35 km along the Weesen stream and the Wildecker ponds. You are rewarded with the scenery and the tranquillity of the forests (yes – even off-roaders in their vehicles can enjoy this). We used the route to hone our pothole communication and video technology! 😃

Conclusion: It’s worth taking a day trip to the Südheide – preferably with a little time buffer on the way back, as one of the many small villages is sure to have a mill, baking or spring festival that invites you to take a break and fortify yourself.
